About the Course
Beyond Dolls & Dinosaurs: Feminist Therapy for Children is a mini-training designed for counselors and therapists who want to integrate feminist therapy principles into their work with children. This course addresses common myths and questions about feminist therapy with kids, explores how to translate complex concepts like power, fairness, and identity into developmentally appropriate language, and provides practical interventions and creative activities. Participants will learn how to engage children and families in conversations about empowerment, gender roles, and social identity, while respecting diverse backgrounds and values. The training includes real-world examples, book recommendations, and strategies for working with families and communities, equipping professionals to foster confidence, self-worth, and advocacy in young clients.
Learning Objectives
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
1. Identify and effectively respond to 20 or more frequently asked questions about adapting feminist therapy for children and adolescents, demonstrating practical understanding and application in clinical settings.
2. Describe the three core aspects of feminist therapy most relevant to work with children and adolescents, and explain how each can be integrated into counseling practice.
3. Recognize and address at least two common myths or concerns related to implementing feminist therapy with children and their families, using evidence-based strategies.
4. Translate key feminist therapy concepts—such as power, fairness, and gender roles—into developmentally appropriate language and activities for children and adolescents.
5. Identify at least three children’s books and three creative activities that support the principles of feminist therapy in work with youth.
